What type of visa is required to attend the SSG?
A standard 60-day tourist visa is adequate for attending in the SSG. The SSG offers USILACS students the chance to visit Thailand, engage with local Thai children, immerse in Thai culture, and connect with fellow students.

Is travel included in the program fee?
No, the tuition does not cover travel expenses to and from the SSG location city. For example, a round-trip airfare from Los Angeles, CA, to Chiang Mai for February 2025 is approximately $1,072.40, including taxes and fees (as per Travelocity’s quote on 8.05.2024). However, transportation during SSG activities is included, and complimentary transfers to and from the local bus station and airport are provided.

What if I need assistance with the Thai language while in Chiang Mai?
Chiang Mai is a well-known destination for English-speaking tourists, with English widely spoken and understood. Our bilingual staff, fluent in English and Thai, can assist you as needed. Additionally, we will provide 24/7 contact numbers for staff members who can offer translation assistance by phone when communicating with non-English-speaking locals.

When can I check in for the SSG?
USILACS-Asia staff will be there to greet and register SSG students between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm on the Sunday before the SSG.

What is the SSG facility like?
To ensure an authentic Thai experience, the SSG sessions will be held at a local school, allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in the Thai educational environment. Enjoying midday meals with local teachers and students is a rare unique opportunity typically reserved for VIPs, providing valuable insights into the local culture.

 Is attendance at all SSG activities and events mandatory?
Yes, attendance and participation in all SSG activities and events are mandatory, except in cases where there are significant and valid reasons for non-attendance.

What are the hotel accommodations like?
The hotel where you will be staying is a 4-star resort hotel conveniently located within walking distance of the renowned Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai. The hotel has been thoroughly inspected to ensure it meets high standards. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, reliable hot water, multiple electrical outlets, a study area, high-speed Wi-Fi with printer and scanner access, personal safes, irons, and safe, blood-free food service, ensuring cleanliness and general upkeep. All accommodations are based on double occupancy and include a breakfast buffet available daily.

Are housekeeping and laundry services provided?
Yes, the hotel provides full housekeeping services. We can also offer a list of reputable laundry services, including washing, drying, and ironing.

Is it possible to rent cars or motorcycles locally?
Yes, we can provide a list of vetted and reliable businesses that offer car and motorcycle rentals, from small mopeds to larger road motorcycles. A valid International Drivers License with proper car or motorcycle endorsements is hight recommended and is required by rental shops.

 Can I bring food and drinks to the facility?
A breakfast buffet is available at the hotel, and drinks and snacks are provided in the classroom throughout the day. You will have the privilege of eating lunch at the local school will staff and students. Additionally, participants may purchase food and drinks from local stores, shops, restaurants, and delivery services.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?
We will make every effort to accommodate reasonable dietary needs and restrictions.
Important Warning: If you have allergies to shellfish or peanuts, please be aware that these ingredients are commonly used in Thai cuisine. It is your responsibility to inquire about the ingredients in food before consumption.

 Are there quality medical facilities available in case of an emergency?
Yes, Chiang Mai has several world-class hospitals equipped with ambulance services, pharmacies, and highly qualified English-speaking medical professionals. All hospitals on our list adhere to Western accreditation standards. It is highly recommended that you purchase medical travel insurance prior to traveling to Thailand, which covers any unexpected accidents or illnesses.

 Can I attend meetings or collaborate with local groups during the SSG?

 What are the prerequisites to attend the SSG?
The only prerequisite for applying for an invitation to attend the SSG is that you must be a current or former USILACS student.

 Is there homework expected while attending the SSG/TESOL?
Yes, it is strongly recommended that you thoroughly study all reference materials, watch all videos, and take comprehensive notes before the corresponding course is covered in the SSG/TESOL program. Inadequate preparation typically leads to lower academic performance.

 If I am already an enrolled online student, can I still attend the SSG/TESOL?
The only prerequisite for applying for an invitation to attend the SSG is that you must be a current or former USILACS student.

What if I want my non-enrolled spouse, friends, or children to share my room and participate in SSG/TESOL entertainment activities?
Non-enrolled family members or friends are welcome to accompany you, share your room, and participate in entertainment activities associated with the SSG program for an additional fee of $599.00 per person.

I currently teach English online. What can I do for the internet, or how do I find a location to teach?
Many students who teach English online do so during the evening. Due to local laws and regulations, students are not permitted to use the facility or its internet for teaching purposes. Facilitating employment without a proper work permit may result in legal complications. However, your hotel offers excellent internet service. For those needing to work online, purchasing a high-speed internet SIM card for use with a phone, tablet, or laptop internet stick is advisable.
