Unlike traditional education models, HESEAP evaluates each student’s prior learning to determine eligibility for Classroom Learning Credits (CLC).
Qualified students can dramatically reduce both the cost and duration of their degree program. For each course awarded CLC, no additional coursework is required, tuition is waived, and only a final examination fee applies. This innovative system provides a fast, affordable, and academically rigorous path toward graduation.
What is HESEAP®?
HESEAP, the Higher Education Skills Equivalency Accreditation Program, is USILACS’s exclusive system for converting prior education, training, and life experience into real college credit. Through a formal academic evaluation, students may earn Classroom Learning Credits (CLC) toward their undergraduate degree—saving time and thousands of dollars in tuition.
If you have a strong academic background, job training, military service, or extensive life experience, you may already be closer to your degree than you think.Â
How are CLC “Classroom Learning Credits” determined?
How is HESEAP® different?
HESEAP® distinguishes itself through its proprietary framework that combines academic rigor with real-world relevance. Unlike traditional transfer credit systems, HESEAP® uses a multi-layered evaluation approach based on equivalent competency standards, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of each student’s prior college-level education, professional experience, and independent learning.
Through this academically validated process, students may be awarded Classroom Learning Credits (CLC), significantly reducing the number of in-classroom courses required for graduation. This not only accelerates the educational journey but also minimizes cost and time investment—without compromising academic integrity.
What HESEAP is and What HESEAP is Not
HESEAP® is a specialized academic credit evaluation system designed to formally recognize and award credit for verified prior education, training, professional experience, and independent study. Through a rigorous documentation and review process, qualified students may earn Classroom Learning Credits (CLC), reducing the amount of coursework required for graduation while maintaining the highest academic standards.
HESEAP® is not a form of traditional or online instruction, nor is it an automatic credit system. Students without sufficient prior education or experience, or who cannot successfully pass the required final exams, do not qualify for HESEAP. It is a merit-based system, grounded in academic integrity and structured to reward genuine prior achievement.
How does it work?
The HESEAP® (Higher Education Skills Equivalency Accreditation Program) process begins when the student submits a formal application that includes detailed documentation of prior academic achievements, professional experience, military service, volunteer roles, certifications, and other relevant accomplishments. The HESEAP Academic Review Committee carefully evaluates this documentation and compares it to established USILACS course learning outcomes to determine academic equivalency.
If the student’s prior learning meets or exceeds the required standards, Classroom Learning Credits (CLC) are awarded. For these credited courses, no additional coursework is required, and tuition is fully waived. The only remaining requirement is the successful completion of a comprehensive final examination for each course in which CLC is granted. This exam ensures mastery of the subject and is mandatory for graduation, as required by USILACS policy and Florida state guidelines.Â
