ENG1097 College English Literature

This course accentuates developing skills in order to think critically and decipher a variety of pieces of literature.  Themes, techniques and styles of a few nineteenth century authors will be inspected.  The prime target will be on literary texts and how to develop well-supported reasoning pertaining to the subject matter, characters, and social histories the author depicts.

You will grasp how to interpret and gauge a variety of texts.  A knowledge of the essence and the profound thoughts or attitudes will be developed by you.  The authors manipulate language to evoke many emotions, illicit dynamic visualization, and inspire the readers’ senses.  You will secure a comprehensive knowledge of how they do so.  Your perception of yourself and the world around you will be heightened.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Literature is a substantial part of society.  It has impacted how people think and feel.  It has opened people’s minds to notions such as justice, love, and war.  Literature helps broaden the horizons of those who chose to read it.  You will gain a profound understanding of this very influential part of life.  You will be able to decipher the authors’ meaning and assess it for your use.  By the end of this course, all students should:

  • Savor the experience of reading
  • Understand various pieces of literature
  • React to literary pieces by thinking critically about the message conveyed
  • Effectively convey a personal reply from the literature
  • Interpret the way diverse writers achieve their effects in writing
  • Encounter intellectual and imaginative growth from the literature
  • Detail how literature j\has impacted various areas of human concern
