You May Already Qualify for College Credit

HESEAP® stands for Higher Education Skills Equivalency Assessment Program. It is a structured academic evaluation that allows qualifying prior education, work experience, professional training, certifications, and other demonstrated knowledge to be evaluated for possible academic credit toward an eligible USILACS bachelor’s degree.

Students pursuing an eligible USILACS bachelor’s degree may complete HESEAP when they have relevant prior education, work experience, professional training, certifications, or other knowledge that may satisfy the learning requirements of courses within their degree program.

No. HESEAP® applies only to eligible Bachelor’s Degree students. USILACS Associate Degree and Master’s Degree programs do not use HESEAP.

When HESEAP® credit is approved for a course, the normal tuition for that course is not charged. The required final examination fee still applies, and the student must pass the final examination for that course. Your exact Bachelor’s Degree cost also depends on applicable completed coursework, country-based tuition pricing, and your payment option.

Applicable USILACS coursework already completed at an earlier level carries forward when it satisfies requirements in the next credential. Because the course has already been completed through USILACS, the student does not pay the tuition or final examination fee for that course again. HESEAP is separate from this normal progression of previously completed coursework.

Begin through the USILACS Enrollment System and select your bachelor’s degree. During the HESEAP step, provide a written explanation of your relevant knowledge and experience for each course you wish to claim. Each claimed course requires at least 20 written words before the response can be saved.

HESEAP responses are submitted as written explanations of relevant prior learning. Attachments are not accepted as part of the standard HESEAP submission. During academic review, the HESEAP Review Committee may request additional information or verification when necessary.

There is no charge to complete or revise your HESEAP® responses. A HESEAP Review Committee evaluation fee is required before your application is formally submitted for academic review. The amount of the evaluation fee is based on the USILACS country-based tuition pricing applicable to you.

You may review and edit your HESEAP® responses until the HESEAP Review Committee evaluation fee has been paid. Once payment is completed, your HESEAP application is formally submitted for review and your responses are locked. Changes cannot normally be made after submission unless the HESEAP Review Committee specifically requests additional information or verification.

If no HESEAP response is submitted for a course, no HESEAP credit is requested for that course. The course remains part of the student’s normal bachelor’s degree requirements and is completed through the standard instructional pathway, with the applicable tuition and required final examination fee.

The HESEAP Review Committee normally responds with an evaluation within 48 hours or less. The student will receive an email when the evaluation has been completed or if the committee requires additional information or verification.

Potentially. Work experience by itself does not automatically create academic credit. HESEAP evaluates the knowledge and skills gained through that experience against the requirements of applicable bachelor’s degree courses. When the required learning is demonstrated and approved, academic credit may be awarded. The normal tuition for the approved course is not charged, the required final examination fee still applies, and the student must pass the final examination for that course.
